“Yes, happily language is a thing: it is a written thing, a bit of bark, a sliver of rock, a fragment of clay in which the reality of the earth continues to exist. The word acts not as an ideal force but as an obscure power.”
– Maurice Blanchot
“Love is a pebble laughing in the sun.”
– Jacques Lacan
Pebble is a new Chicago-based small press interested in publishing a wide range of lyrical, attentive, and devotional writing. We are particularly interested in nature, Chicago, pottery, photography, cinema, the decorative arts, lost histories, the built environment, regionalism, seasons, and weather. Pebble seeks thick and stylish description, diaries documenting pleasure in craft or creative work, illustrated life-writing, and your own uncommon idea for a book.
